Hello vintage lovers!
I have something very exciting to show you! If you follow The Vintage Wardrobe on Facebook or Instagram, you might have seen that I’m in a book! And not just any book, vintage aficionado Dawn O’ Porter’s latest book, ‘This Old Thing’.
It’s incredibly overwhelming and lovely to see myself in a vintage book! As most of you know, I wear full 60s & 70s vintage every day and it’s wonderful to be part of a community that celebrates an alternative to the high street!
Here I am wearing a dress from Etsy and coat from a vintage shop in Manchester. I was photographed at Judy’s Manchester Vintage Fair and actually got a medal for ‘Best Dressed’ with £50 to spend on whatever I wanted, which was very flattering! I’ve never been overconfident with my style, I just wear what I want to wear, so it’s always lovely when I receive compliments like this!
In the book, Dawn O’Porter discusses how she found a way of expressing herself through vintage and I couldn’t agree more! I began to feel so comfortable with my style when discovering vintage and it’s exciting to think how broad it is. The high street is so limited when you can go into a vintage shop and find something from the 1920s to 1980s! I’m sure all of you vintage lovers will agree!
If you haven’t purchased “This Old Thing” yet, I really recommend it! It’s a great book, with some stunning old photos, tips and even ‘how-to’s’ on altering pieces! This book’s particularly helpful if you’re just getting into vintage and not really sure where to start. Order your copy here.
There’s also a TV show of the same title coming to Channel 4 this month, which I’m looking forward to!
